HISTORY OF MOUNTAINDEW ICE
- Our strength is ICE
- Purchased by the current owners, Steve and Wendy Bush in 1989, we are a fully owned and operated Tasmanian company.
- 1996 Purchased a small ice plant in Burnie.
- 1997 Upgraded the plant and relocated to Shearwater.
- 1999 Acquired the Iceman operation in Launceston. In this year we also expanded into Smithton, Queenstown & Strahan.
- 2002 Upgraded boat-loading capability to supply fishing boats.
- 2003 We gained HACCP accreditation and commenced distribution into Hobart. In 2003 we also commenced statewide supermarket distribution to IGA, Coles and Woolworths.
- 2004 – 2009 we were the main sponsor of the Mountain Dew Ice International Raceway. As part of the sponsorship were received TV and radio advertising which gave us excellent exposure and branding.
- 2005 Carried out a major production upgrade and installed an automatic bagging machine.
- 2007 Purchased the Eski Ice business in Hobart and merged the two, effectively doubling the size of Mountain Dew Ice.
- 2008 Completed a new truck docking facility enabling semi trailers and freezer pans to load for statewide distribution.
- 2008 Completed 150 pallet freezer at Shearwater site.
- 2010 To meet increasing demand, we completed an upgrade to our ice production facility in Shearwater which increases our ice output by 50%.
- 2013 Due to an increase in our storage requirements we relocated our Southern Distribution Centre to Carey Distribution in Glenorchy.
- 2014 We commenced a factory extension in Shearwater which includes a new rake room. This allowed us to double our bulk holding capacity and bulk output.
- 2016 We purchased Advantage Route an electronic on road invoicing system to keep up with customer requirements.
- 2017 We relocated our Southern Distribution centre to Mornington. We had outgrown Carey’s Distribution and the new site offered larger office space, 300 pallet freezer and a warehouse.
- We continually upgrading our trucking fleet to meet National Transport Regulations. In September 2018 we purchased a 22 pallet Truck and Trailer to transport ice from our factory in Port Sorell to the distribution centre in Mornington. In July 2019 we purchased another 12 pallet truck, taking our fleet to 9. We offer insulated pallet drops across Tasmania during the peak times. On Xmas day 2018 we had 12 trucks operating.
- 2021 We installed a second icemaker. This was a state-of-the-art Patkol from Thailand which meant we can now produce 50 tonnes of ice per day.
- 2022 Purchased Icemakers in Launceston.
- 2024 Relocated our Southern Distribution Centre from Mornington to Tea Tree.
